In the coming years, the new 5G wireless technology infrastructure will be accessible by the consumers globally (it’s started spreading already). Just as 4G networks technology can offer mobile Internet speeds that are many times faster than 3G, 5G will bring up to 100 Gigabit speeds per second, which is 100 times faster than a 4G network.
With the arrival of the new invention of WiFi, a series of frightening health claims have emerged. They always have the same argument:
- Man has never been exposed to these waves before,
- Researchers have not yet proven that the latest infrastructure will not be risky for humans,
- The WTO (World Health Organization) has announced that WiFi radio frequency “may be cancerous,”
- Thus, we should give a pause to the technology before establishing its security.
Fortunately, science has revealed that 5G is certainly not a threat to humankind (at least not to the extent that many are portraying it to be). Except you value a genuinely unfounded conspiracy in science, you should be aware of the following.
In an electromagnetic spectrum, you usually only know your interactions with infrared (thermal) radiation and optical (visible), but more things interact with the human body. Low-energy signals like microwaves range in wavelengths from millimeters to one meter and bombard us on the ground.
Microwave waves comprise a combination of natural signals, such as astronomical signals, atmospheric molecules, and surprisingly afterglows from massive explosions, plus radar, artificial radio, Bluetooth, satellite, broadband, and GPS signals. It also incorporates WiFi signals, counting 5G, 4G, and 3G.
What is not visible to the human eye is the high energy signal: X-rays, gamma rays, and ultraviolet light. At high doses, every type of radiation can be hazardous to living things, but at moderate doses, only high energy signals don’t matter.
The reason is related to the quantum nature of energy and matter. When matter interacts with light, three things can happen:
- The material absorbs the incorrect wavelength, and as a result, the light gets reflected.
- The correct wavelength of light is absorbed by the material, however too short to kick any electrons away from their parent molecules/atoms.
- Light is absorbed, and the energy of every photon is sufficient to ionize each electron.
For example, the green color of plants is because they do not absorb green light. Instead, plants reflect it. You can cook food in a microwave oven because water liquid molecules (and some other molecules) are outstanding absorbers of microwave rays that can be heated.
However, the third option for ionizing and releasing electrons from the atoms is to truly damage the form of radiation of the organism at the level of the cell. That’s why you should apply sunscreen lotions when you are exposed to direct sun rays because ultraviolet light can ionize substances in skin and results in sunburns, if severe.
This is the reason why lead shields should be worn when shooting X-rays because even more energetic radiation can lead to severe harm to the body. That’s why you ask for excessive shielding of any nuclear reactor and require everyone to keep away from every nuclear explosion as gamma rays are the highest of all energy, causing cell damage that can be deadly even to humans.
Ionizing radiation leads to the most direct and severe damage not only to humans but also to the majority of living organisms, which is why it is so strict in the world about how any entity can radiate many harmful categories of radiation.
However, as long as there is sufficient total energy damage, the absorbed non-ionizing radiation will cause harm. Radiation is not ionized by ions but is captivated and converted into heat, and excess heat permanently damages living tissue.
Therefore, this seems to be a reasonable question:
Are 5G technologies and their environmental radiation likely to cause damage to the human?
According to WiFi experts, such as Berkeley’s Joel Moskowitz, they will insist on doing so. This kind of wireless network has hurt us; this is a reason for the number of health problems that are raging in the crowd. There is a vast scheme to bury it because the WTO has categorized 5G as the possibility to cause cancer; we should stay away from using it until it proves to be safe.
For Moskowitz, unfortunately, for the society, fortunately, carcinogenicity is the least risk level attributable to risk factors if research finds that any dose of radiation results in any cancer outbreak in any organism, this is its classification.
The only means this radiation hurts humans is by the total energy absorbed by the body (or part of the body). Each time a mechanism receives or sends a wireless signal, it searches for radiation of the appropriate frequency or transmits it. Like anything on the planet, these mechanisms all use power, and the energy they release is spread across a sphere: as you leave the light source, the distance decreases as the range reciprocates.
To make things less-technical for you, if you’ve ever placed a handy radio near you, you’ll receive much more radiation at a similar frequency than a 5G gadget in your hand. On the end user’s level of consumption, every device surrounds you – similar to what you encounter in the classrooms, office, or airports – imparting radiation levels based on energy issues should not pose a risk at all.
According to Dr. Alex Berezow, US Science and Health Commission said, a full set of scientific research has supported the hypothesis that 5G is secure. He argues that only “if there is sufficient evidence to show the opposite, then we should re-evaluate the status quo.”
In theory, there is ultimately no motive to worry about 5G tech or any form of WiFi radiation.
However, if you are genuinely interested in the dangers that may be caused to humans, then you can look at those who are exposed to the maximum levels of 5G radiation: construction and electrical workers that install 5G communication infrastructures. In the United Kingdom, the National Register of RF Workers is the regulator responsible for the safety and health of the population, and it is entirely composed of RF personnel.
When you are four inches away from radiation, if the radiation distance drops by 10 meters, the radiation dose may be reduced by 10,000 times. This is a dangerous scenario.
As Simon Rockman reported in Forbes, 4,500 citizens in the United Kingdom work near RF radiation. They were permissible to receive five times more RF exposure than the ordinary people, and there is no proof that they contain a higher cancer incidence or fitness issues that may be attributed to WiFi rays than any other populace.
Nonetheless, the best thing they can do is simply set up a small restricted area around the tower to release a large number of signals of 5G radiation. As long as the restricted area is about 33 feet in each direction, then anyone outside the restricted area is undoubtedly safe. As long as the receiver/transmitter is a high tower, and as long as it is below the active device by 10 meters, it will automatically be safe.

The advantages that 5G will provide to society in the future are really innovative. Besides the faster speeds that ordinary customers will see, the 5G infrastructure will also make it possible to change the civilization of intelligent technology and almost limitless devices. 5G will allow the proliferation of tech that depends on Internet connectivity. 5G technology will become unbeatable by the emergence of the Internet of Things.
There may be many practical hazards in the world, but 5G is not among them.
